MISTERI D'ELX Elche

Venue: Elche Well-known as THE FESTA, in capital letters, it has been declared by Unesco Patrimony to Humanity. It is the representation of a sacred-lyrical drama whose theme is the dormición (to fall sleep) and assumption of the Virgin to the heavens, as interpreted by ilicitano singers. In spite of the fact that representations were prohibited in the churches, The Misteri survived thanks to a bula conceded in the 17th century. In the three days that the festivities last also stands out the Nit de l'Albŕ, when people let off fireworks in honour of the Virgin. It is remarkable too the procession or Roŕ along the old medieval walls to watch over the dormición of the Virgin. It is a Master piece of the Oral and Immaterial Patrimony to Humanity.
Palm Sunday Elche

Venue: Los Huertos de Palmeras, Elche The main event of the day is the palm tree procession, which reaches great participation of people attending the procession carrying white palms from palm tree gardens in Elche. The spectacular elaborated palms have culminated in a palm contest where the palms are transformed into impressive creative monuments.
